It's simply a metal plate designed to fit only with the Spigen Thin Fit case. The magnet is part of the mount installed in your vehicle. I have both a Pixel 2 and 3 with the Thin Fit case for each. Which has a designated spot for the metal plate where the plastic is slightly thinner then the rest of the case. It is not a TPU case. It's a harder, less flexible plastic for the plate to stick to. But still my favorite. I won't drive without it. I bought a used Charger that had a perfect spot for the mount. It's a metal ball and an adapter with magnets on both sides. The ball style makes it infinitely adjustable. Much more professional looking then a vent mount. Which I need for the AC anyway. Mine is mounted down next to the shifter. It was professionally installed as the center console was removed go mount it. A small hole drilled and one screw from the bottom through the console to the silver ball. It doesn't allow for wireless charging on the Pixel 3 but I don't use that anyway. Having a place to mount your phone in the car is certainly much more important. You can of course simply remove the case for wireless charging. While you're home you don't need a case anyway. Unless you have a very new car with wireless charging then you'd need to choose. And Thin Fit is certainly a proper name. The top and bottom are open. There's no covering on the power and volume buttons. You press on the actual buttons. The case, metal plate, and car mount is simply the best phone case system for a vehicle that I've ever seen. The screen protector installs separately. They also make a Thin Fit 360 for the Pixel 3. It just adds a cover over the front. Not sure why since it still uses a stick on screen protector. Just adds a little more bulk. I guess if you want the extra coverage on the top, bottom, and buttons that I mentioned. It wasn't very popular and I don't see it on Amazon anymore. The Pixel 3 is still my favorite phone. Only the Pixel 4 had a faster processor. But I can't use facial recognition and will never have my fingerprint reader anywhere but the back of the phone. Had they kept the features of the Pixel 3 and just added to them I'd update my Pixel. They took away Active Edge. The Qualcomm 845 chip is behind only the 855 of the Pixel 4. With huge bezels and features I'd never use, plus it's smaller battery had terrible reviews. The 4a is a really good deal. But it has a 700 series processor. Just like the 4a 5G and the Pixel 5. I certainly never need 5G. Even on T-Mobile. Google can't decide on a midrange phone or high end phone. So they're stuck in the middle. Samsung makes a model for everyone. Google doesn't have that market share. They don't need it. They're a software company who sells Android to everyone excerpt Apple. Now they're making their own SOC called Whitechapel on the Pixel 6. Given the semi conductor shortage in the US it's great timing for October. Sorry. I forgot this was a Spigen question. Just get the Thin Fit case and the metal plates come with both rectangular and round. The round ones meant for the back of the phone without a case. I prefer my setup. The metal plate sticks to the magnet through the plastic of the case. **Q: Is there a flashback/white cast in pics when using the flash? A reviewer said she had this issue with this case. Has anyone else?** A: I guess I'm not certain what the effect that's being noticed really is. When using flash, the camera does seem to take a few hundred milliseconds to adjust the settings to the light from the flash. Typically there is a short bloom on the display if the subject is fairly light in color and close to the camera then the shutter adjustments are made right before the snap and the light going off. The pictures turn out fine. I notice no difference with this case on or off the camera. That said, the 1-1.5mm edge of the case that surrounds the camera does have a glossy finish and perhaps in the exact right situations could reflect some light onto the camera lens but I have not noticed this. If this is a concern, I suspect a few seconds of roughing that edge with a bit of 400 or 600 grit emery paper would take that gloss right out and eliminate that possibility, but I have not actually done that on mine. Seems like it will offer good protection. *by B***N on October 20, 2018* This case feels good in the hand. It feels a little bit like rubber, but it's not sticky like most rubber is. It's still easy to grip with one hand, and I don't feel like I'm going to drop it. The case has cutouts for the USB-C port, fingerprint sensor, camera/flash, and a hole on the top of the phone (microphone?), but covers the power and volume buttons with the same rubber-like material. The fingerprint cutout has a nice bezel around it, so it's easy to slide your fingerprint for authentication, and makes finding the fingerprint sensor easy without looking. The camera/flash also has a slight bezel around the cutout, leaving the lens well protected if you set the phone down on a flat surface. The top of the case also has a slight lip around the edge of the screen so that the glass is protected if you set the phone face-down on a flat surface (which you might be doing since it's a new feature in android 9 - "flip to shhh") Overall the case is good, especially for the price.
