I plan on switching they system to this system, can i program the new fobs prior to shutting down the old system?** A: Old fobs and new ones have nothing to do with each other unless I am misunderstanding your question.? Assuming you want to use the old fobs in the new system? Not sure about that. The reader supports the following cards: EM4100/EM4001/TK4100. But yes you can just install the provided software n a network pc and hook up the usb fob reader as well. Create the users and link the unique new fob ID to that user using the provided reader / or type it in. I did my cards after hardware setup, but you can do it at any time. You will have to hook the control panel up the network at some point to write the settings/user fobs to control board, but once that is done, you can disconnect from the network and pretty much set and forget. Hooked up and tested everything on the bench first to assure that system worked, hook-up was good, internet tested good and key FOB's and Cards worked as advertised. All checked good on the bench test of the complete system. My installation took probably a little longer because we had to modify/repair our metal door frame due to previous installations that were done - not well- and ended up with a butchered door jam that looked like it was cut with a chainsaw, but we took time to make it right. (Side note: Do not attempt to make metal door jam repairs unless you are sure of your capabilities, luckily, our door jam is made of aluminum and we are good with that) The final Striker lock installation looked like a new door jam installation and turned out really good. We had to also install an electrical outlet for the Door access control box as it is located about 20 ft away from the Door we are controlling and in a secure room. We fabricated a new CAT 5 ethernet cable and routed 2 pieces of 4 conductor telephone/alarm system hookup wire between the controller and the other accessories at the door. After all was connected with weather proof heat shrink and a couple of environmental splices, the system was tested and all worked really good. I am still learning the software side of things and may indeed end up calling tech support for that but that's ok. we are very pleased how this system operates and shows who has logged in thru our front door and at what time, again still learning everything that this system can do. Thankfully we only have 1 door to monitor and control and now our building is more secure than it was with the old system. We should have done this a long time ago. I will update this review if anything changes.
