Review: Bright Red, No-Nonsense Night Flashlights, With a Few Real-World Caveats - These single-mode red LED flashlights do exactly what they advertise in the simplest way possible: click on, click off, and you get red light—no strobe, no SOS, no cycling through modes when you’re trying to stay quiet. For night use, that’s genuinely helpful. The red beam is easier on dark-adapted eyes than white light, so it works well for things like checking gear, moving around camp, reading a map, or doing a quick scan without nuking your night vision. For astronomy, the red output is usable for small tasks at the scope (finding accessories, adjusting a tripod, checking notes), though it’s still bright enough at close range that you may want to aim it down or diffuse it if you’re trying to preserve maximum dark adaptation. The “zoom” feature is handy in practice, even if it’s not magic. Flood mode covers a wider area for walking or working, and zooming in gives a tighter spot for picking out reflective eyeshine or checking something farther out. Realistically, the claimed 150-yard reach depends a lot on conditions and what you consider “seeing” (spotting a reflective object is different than clearly identifying an animal), but the focused beam does throw farther than a typical cheap flood-only red light. Build-wise, these are lightweight and feel like budget torches, but not disposable junk. The single mode keeps them reliable and frustration-free, and having two in the pack is nice—one can live in a glovebox or pocket while the other stays with your field kit. The battery note is where you need to be smart. Using a standard 1.5V AA works fine and keeps heat and stress on the light lower. The listing’s suggestion to run “AA-sized” higher-voltage cells up to 4V may increase brightness, but it also increases heat and can shorten the flashlight's life (and potentially create safety issues, depending on the cell type). For practical use, I’d stick with standard AAs or reputable AA-format rechargeables designed for 1.2–1.5V use, and treat anything higher-voltage as a “you’re on your own” experiment. Overall, these are a solid buy if you want simple, red-only lights for night tasks, wildlife-friendly scanning, or astronomy gear checks, and you value one-mode operation over fancy features. If you’re expecting a premium, long-range hunting spotlight or a precision “astronomy-safe” ultra-dim red light out of the box, you’ll probably want something higher-end (or add a diffuser), but for basic night observation and utility they’re effective.
Review: Mini-Flashlight, OK Quality, but Not The Best - These are ok, budget flashlights. The build quality isn't very good, but at the same time, not terrible. This uses a single AA battery, and has an adjustable sliding focus. It's not too bright, but bright enough. One thing the red light spectrum is that many night animals or insects can't "see" red light as humans do, so you can flash it on them, and they won't run away or hide. Most mammals are "red-green color blind," meaning they don't see the color red but can still perceive the light's brightness or a duller version of it. Most Mammals (Deer, Dogs, Cats, Hogs): These animals lack the specific "red" photoreceptors (cones) in their eyes. To them, a red beam often appears as a faint shade of gray, yellow, or brown. Insects: Most insects cannot see red at all; a red-lit area often appears completely dark to them. As for the product, the good points are that it does use AA battery, it's light is red, just on/off button on the back (and NO strobing!!!!, and comes with a built in clip. The not so good points is the build quality is only ok. The sliding focus doesn't seem to have much tension so it's easily moved by accident. When you disassemble for flashlight, you can tell the fit and finish isn't great (it's a bit rough, and somewhat thin). The clip is attached securely by two screws which sticks out, and not color matched to the body. The pricing is meh at about nine dollars for the pair. This prob priced at he high end of value. So with all these negatives, why did I give it five stars? Well, it doesn't have that annoying, and useless strobing function almost all EDC flashlights have for some inexplicable reason. That is like the start/stop function on cars... completely and utterly useless, and extremely annoying. For that fact alone, I give this product five stars.

## Features

- These 2 Pack of single mode red light flashlights are specially designed for night activities. Human's eyes are most sensitive to the Red range of light, but animals are not spooked by a Red LED flashlight, so these red lights are very helpful to find the animals in the dark, like hogs, coyotes, fox...are less sensitive to the Red light, so you can find them without disturbing them.
- These Red night flashlights are also specially designed for observers, night observation is effective but hard to find the target, if you use the white light, animals will hide from you, you are not able to watch their natural behavior at night, so, this night light flashlight is very helpful to find the animals in the dark, help you watch turtle, snakes, and the reptiles..
- Single mode one mode flashlight: 1 switch mode(On/OFF), 1 mode red LED flashlight.
- Zooming light in and outThe Red light beam can shoot more than 150 yard.; The red light can be used for sending signal, for asking help, for warnings.
- For operating these red flashlights, you need to buy one 1.5V AA Size battery, or one other type battery as the AA battery Size but the max Voltage is 4V. The higher voltage input, the brighter red light emit, and the more heat generate on flashlight house, Please choose the battery type by brightness your like.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Compact lightweight hunting light
*by A***J on February 26, 2026*

I ordered the WAYLLSHINE “2 Pack Red Light Flashlight Single Mode Red LED Flashlight” because I can always use flashlights, and red light flashlights are less likely to spook game when heading to a hunting spot early in the morning. The build quality is decent. I’ve had both better and worse construction on flashlights that get regular use. The zoom capability is handy, but I would prefer to see a little more resistance in the portion that slides to zoom. The slide moves pretty easily. Taking it in and out of your pocket is likely to result in a beam that is focused differently than it was previously. Most of my other flashlights twist to adjust beam focus, and that is a more stable design. The product description also doesn’t go into a lot of detail, but the product arrives with a piece of paper describing that a 14500 battery can be used in place of a AA battery. This will result in increased brightness, but also result in more heat and shorter battery life. I didn’t have a 14500 battery to test with, but I assume the 150 yard light beam distance mentioned in the description is achieved with the 14500 battery. I really appreciate that this flashlight takes over the counter batteries. Some of my brightest flashlights are rechargeable, which can be inconvenient when off-grid for periods of time. With 2 of these red light flashlights for <$9, it’s worth giving them a shot.
