Now I finally have a kid but I think they have probably value engineered out a lot of the quality. This one was part wood part paper board. It's really cheaply made. We just bought this and and a m&d xylophone which was way off key. Kind of disappointed in the brand and would definitely not recommend to any friends or buy them as gifts. A perfect variety of shapes to learn "how to puzzle", and he of course can only master the circle and square so far. But it's colourful and fun - and will engage him longer than the true beginner simple "square,circle,triangle" type. Stop wasting your day searching and comparing and just end up with this one, as I did. Can't speak to durability as he's only had it a month, but it was sturdy and seems durable out of the box.
