We have a tortoise living with us as well and a grow space for orchids and I think I have at least 7 timers for lights and they are a pain because they are bulky plugs and clog up my outlets.IThis makes this small, on-site timer a god-send. I have mine on 12, I think the other choices are 3 and 6 hours-- you just choose your light duration and,in the first day, turn the light on at the time you always want it to click on. It will light for the duration chosen, then turn off until the next day at the same time. I LOVE it and I wish they made full spectrum white lights like this because I would jump in line to buy!IThese lights are crazy birght for the size (I believe there's a dimmer-- read product description...I just set mine a month ago and haven't looked at it since...just trusting it to go on and off like it has been) The stems are nicely adjustable, the clamp is nice and strong.
