An excellent account of custom road bikes. Discusses each component in turn with stunning photographs.For wheels for example you get the pros and cons of different readymade or handbuilt approaches,numbers of spokes, types of rims, weight etc.For gear changers as an example he discusses the history of 3 recent types of Shimano changers,  starting from SIS.Well written, readable and interesting.Does not try to describe how to dismantle or adjust components andnor does it attempt to tell you how to maintain or repair road bikes.For maintenance I recommend the book by Leonard Zinn....Zinn & the Art of Road Bike Maintenance: The World's Bestselling Bicycle Repair and Maintenance Guide [Paperback]Lennard Zinn (Author)
