I actually had never heard of this spice before so I did a little research before buying some and this is what I learned: Savory is a small green plant that is a member of the mint family. The herb has two main varietals: summer savory (an annual plant) and winter savory (a perennial plant). Both have a spicey pine-like aroma and a peppery flavour.  If it's your first time using savory, it's recommended you go with summer savory.  Winter savory tends to be more intense due to it being more pungent and having a more bitter earthy flavour. Summer savory, on the other hand, is a little bit sweeter and milder. **Q: Is it ground??** A: Not ground **Q: Is this for one jar or how many?** A: One **Q: What herbs does this contain?** A: I contains only one herb in dried form Satureja hortensis or Summer Savory. I LOVE this in my pot roast. My daughter asked, "Mom, what do you put in your roast with veggies, mine doesn't taste like yours." I told her about this spice, and she now uses it, because I ordered some for her. I also purchased some seeds as it is now discontinued, and I cannot find it in the Meijer store where I first found it. It is definitely worth trying. Also, another thing about ordering spices, is that some brands contain sticks big enough to build a decent bird nest.
