You can hook up a monitor to the unit. This does not require WiFi. If you want to be able to watch the video on your phone, then you need to hook up the system to the internet. **Q: What is the maximum distance from camera to receiver?** A: Distance is about 100 to 200 feet but is based on placement, walls, windows, etc. One of the nice things about this system is that you can set each camera as a relay or range extender so you can place one camera at 100 feet and the next camera 100 feet from that one then if you want another camera 100 feet from the second one. There will be some lag but it works well if you want to cover a very large area. **Q: Do you have to have internet?** A: Only if you wish to view remotely from a mobile device. Otherwise, the camera system can fully function (and subsequently viewing on a monitor/tv) without the internet connection. **Q: does this unit back up to the cloud** A: You CAN NOT use this in the cloud or over a network. The software that they provide is defective. I'm trying to download video from it over a 10MB network and it will not work.
