Can I use thick yarns to make rugs?** A: The thickness of the warp is dependent on the size heddle you use. Typically a bulky weight would be the thickest warp using a 5 dent heddle. However, any thickness can be used for the weft, and my thought would be that for a rug, you would want a thinner but strong warp and then use whatever you like for the weft. That way you will have a strong, but cushy weave. **Q: Can someone tell me as a beginner what accessories I would need for this besides a stand?** A: My husband made me some additional shuttles because you want shorter and longer (I don't remember exactly what came with it). It cannot, however, be wider than 32".If you would like a finished piece to be 32" wide and 72" (6 feet) long, strand your warp out to 8 feet length.Ashford has a great video tutorial on their website. All the best! **Q: Does the width for the loom almost reach to the width of a yeard of fabric and can i use sewing thread instead of yarn?** A: My loom is 32” and a yard of fabric is 36” so no the width of the loom is shorter.. I have seen 1very small piece of tapestry at a display at the Norway House done in thread. It must have taken a very long time to weave. Also the tension of the warp would break the thread. Yes, it $350 after taxes, but it's well worth the price if you want a loom.Although it was easily assembled, I had to use a drill to screw in the screws for the turning knobs as they would not go in by a hand screwdriver. I looked at many options but decided on the rigid heddle loom based on price, size and what the loom was capable of producing. I chose the 32 inch since I planned to use the loom to make fabric for sewing projects along with scarves, shawls etc.A warping peg was included along with 2 shuttles.It was easy to assemble with clear instructions and it was well made so, everything lined up properly. The loom also came with instructions for a scarf project so you can learn to warp the loom and weave a small portion before trying a larger project.It's a good sized loom but it's not cumbersome to sit with it resting over my lap with the other end on the table. If I had it to do again I MIGHT get the larger one but I'm honestly very pleased with the 32 inch model.My only recommendation for extras would be to get a beater.
