So, we used this as a detangler. It helps pull out the knots. We "rake" his hair with the untangler and use a few prongs to "pick" at the knots. It works! And, the edges aren't sharp so it doesn't hurt the cat's skin. **Q: How long are the tines? Would this work on a great pyrenees?** A: The tines are 1" long and are not sharp. We have four Maine Coons and it works great. You just have to be patient and not pull too hard. Follow the instructions that come with the rake and you'll have no trouble. We've removed some very large tangles with little effort.
