グランジが当時流行りまくって、衰退してきた頃の1995年に発売されたdeftones初アルバム。 音はグランジ感にやや、ラップのようなボーカルの独特の歌い回しが入ったハードコアパンク。ジャンルでは表現しにくですが、一緒によく比べられる同じ時期に出されたKornの初アルバムとは似て非なる音。若者の鬱屈したストレスやフラストレーションをボーカルの高いシャウトと、歪んだリフで表してます。この頃からこのバンドは激しさの中に若干のエロスが既に入ってて私はそこが好きです。この後2000年代初期まで続くニューメタルに確実に大きな影響を与えた一枚。
