The difference will tell you how close the drawer is to the back of the cabinet. The back end of the these drawer slide must be supported. This is done with "drawer slide brackets". They are between 2 and 3 inches long. The drawer slide length is usually longer than the drawer and with the "Drawer slide Bracket" it must reach the back of the cabinet. I have never installed these drawer slides without the Drawer slide Brackets. Most cabinets are 24" kitchen base cabinets, or 21" vanity cabinets, ore 18" vanity cabinets, or custom made cabinets of varying depth dimensions. Also, nobody has mentioned that drawer side to side measurement must be exactly 1" smaller that the face frame hole it passes through. They do self-close the last few inches. They are easy to install, although the directions could be more straight forward. They were a little confusing, but correct. I gave them a 4, only because of two things. 1. I would not load 65lbs in my 10lb drawer and extend it all the way open. It will not hold up. I installed a stop limiting travel to 10" open. I feel it can take the full load at this distance. 2. I built a perfectly sized drawer and cabinet. The dimensions are with 1/32" everywhere. The flathead screws attaching the slide half to the drawer stick out at bit, and interfere with the wheels.
