(To make it even easier measure out flour, baking powder, all dry ingredients- I like to throw in some cinnamon. Throw in ziplock bags that are ready to go when needed, just add egg and oil. For my first attempt, I kept it simple and just used the Aunt Jemima Complete mix (you add water and oil to the dry mix). One batch makes 3 of these waffles. I plugged in the waffle maker, sprayed the plates lightly with non-stick spray (which I later realized you don’t ever need at all), turned it on to setting 2, and waited for the Ready light. When it came on, I poured almost 1 cup of batter into the center of the grid, shut the lid, and flipped it. Once it pretty much stops emitting steam, it’s done. I flipped it back and out came the most perfect waffles ever. No issues at all. In fact, my daughter, who smothers pancakes in chocolate chips, refused to top these with anything, for fear of masking their perfection. Clean up is also very easy. Nothing sticks so I remove the plates and tray just to hand wash them. I’ll post an update if its performance changes, but so far, this is an ideal purchase. UPDATE: After a year of normal use, the waffles started cooking unevenly, with one side burning while the other was still pale and soft. After 1.5 years, I threw it in the trash. They are supposed to be able to be thrown into the washing machine and to be taken care of. I don't recommend you do that on a normal or harsh setting though, in case some varnish(for lack of a better word on the fly) were to come off. I would spray some pan on it before you use it each time and then either throw it in the washing machine on a light setting or hand wash - it's really easy to clean them anyways. **Q: How deep are the iron grids? Thanks.** A: I can't say with any certainty the exact depth the the iron grid, but I can tell you that the finished waffle is approximately 3/4 " thick. Comes out a very nice size. I even cooked hash browns in it the other day and they turned out quite nice as well. They hash browns were defrosted in microwave and then cook in waffle iron about 5 minutes on each side. As you soon as you do the light goes out because the temperature is now below the set temperature. When the light comes back on it means the set temperature has been reached again, but in my experience it doesn't mean the waffle is ready. I have to continue letting it cook for a couple more minutes. All this light really does is tell you if the heater is on. I was hesitant to buy A waffle maker after our last one bit the dust because they are so hard to clean! I wanted to get my husband something he really wanted for our anniversary and a new waffle maker was just the ticket. Finding one that was easy to clean was mandatory for me. The Hamilton Beach flip Belgian waffle maker is super easy to clean and makes perfect waffles! The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't beep when your waffle is ready. I stay with it the whole time and it is really quick so the beeping isn't all that big of a deal. It would be nice but the easy cleaning makes up for it! Aunt Jemima's waffle mix is delicious and works perfectly in this waffle maker. I did spray a little cooking oil on it before using it. The plates are removable and can be put in the dishwasher but I hand wash them with a non-abrasive soap and a little scrub brush and they stay nice and new looking.
