Review: Fantastic Camera for the money. - Before we start, this is not an entry level full frame camera, although its price relative to its peers would make it appear so. I bought this to supplement my Sony A7RV, Fuji X100VI and OM Systems OM1 MkII. I was looking for more general purpose full frame camera that produced smaller files than my Sony and was easier to hold and handle than the Sony. The OM 1 MkII is my high speed camera for wildlife (MFT means that the lenses for longer reach are much smaller than full frame). I used this camera with the Nikon 24-70mm f/4S and 24-120mm f/4S lenses. Build quality is superb and feels well made and substantial. All controls are in the usual Nikon locations and were easy to use and find. The handling and ergonomics of Nikon cameras are way ahead of the Sony in my opinion. It is around the same size and weight as the Sony A7RV body. I did not go for the Z6III which is the obvious alternative here in the Nikon line since I did not need the partially stacked sensor of that camera and the top display is of little use to me in practice. The Z5II is slightly smaller and lighter than the Z6III Results were outstanding with OOC JPGs (I tend to shoot in RAW for difficult contrast subjects but this camera was very good in those circumstances) looking superb in color, dynamic range and noise (even in low light). The "bete noire" of my previous encounters with Nikon cameras (and the reason I went with Sony) was the auto focus. I found the Z6, Z6II, Z7 and Z7II to be difficult to use and that single problem ended up with me moving to and adopting Sony for most of my photography. This camera is night and day difference. It is still not as good as the A7RV but it so much better that is more than good enough for me. The ergonomics and handling of this camera more than made up for the slight deficiencies in auto focus when compared to the A7RV. The sensor of this camera is about twice as fast in read out than the Sony which with its huge resolution (61 MP v 24.5 MP for the Nikon) is very slow and makes its use as a video or fast tracking of moving animals a little problematic with its inability to resolve vertical back ground objects properly in fast pans (rolling shutter). The Z5II is much better but still introduces rolling shutter but is normally not noticeable in situations where the Sony would product very odd results. It has pre-capture (admittedly only in JPG) and uses 2 x SD UHC II cards. I always capture JPG and RAW pictures so I was able to keep them on separate cards. Full weather sealing is an advantage (although it does no have an official IP rating like the OM 1 MkII). It is also worth noting that top of the line Nikon S lenses tend to be cheaper than Sony GM lenses and are equally as good if not better in some cases. Summary: An amazing camera that sacrifices little when compared to the Z6III with a high quality build, superb ergonomics, excellent results and makes a great hybrid stills/video camera in a reasonably sized body and at a very reasonable price. I love this camera and it has got me back into Nikon.
Review: Great camera - Very happy with the camera. It is serving me well.
