It still looks good if there are minor light sources, but the darker the better. I did a bunch of research and saw a bunch of people complain that it doesn’t look as good with the lights on. I don’t know why that is surprising, but now you can go into this knowing that it needs to be dark for you to see the stars. It also uses a disk system where the light shines through a disk with the image of the sky engraved in it to produce the starry sky. I and others have wondered why you would use a seemingly archaic disk system instead of just projecting a digital image that you can change in real time. It seems like this is still the best solution for the most crisp starry sky projection with minimal sound, energy requirements, or heat output. I have a few good projectors and none of them could pull off what this thing does, though they are much better at other things. My kids (and I) are mesmerized by this thing and they want to sleep under it every night.
