We bought it to replace another that we have used for years in our home to signal that meals are ready. Our previous bell, which was similar in design, worked well. This one though is even better! It cuts through a blaring TV on the second floor, and through music blasting in my daughter's bathroom and it's loud enough that the hard of hearing in the extended family pay attention. Just one ding of the bell is usually enough to bring them to the table, but if not, a second ding will certainly do the trick. Hitting the large striker with your palm is very satisfying and the pitch and resonance of the bell is perfect to cut through noise, and hangs in the air.
