Designed for compatibility with common condensers and flasks, it withstands direct flame and thermal variations, making it a durable, reliable choice for professional organic chemistry workflows.

## Description

The dean stark distillation receiver is for easy separation of water from reaction or distillation system, can be used in essential oil extraction. With 24/40 joints, graduated with 2mm PTFE stopcock.325mm in height and 95mm in width. Laboy glassware is made of high-quality borosilicate glass and annealed at 800 degree Celsius, can be heated directly in an open flame and can withstand typical laboratory thermal variations in Chemistry processes like heating and cooling.

Review: A dean stark trap has never been on my radar until I was steam distilling an essential oil that I discovered is mysteriously is heavier than water. I bought one for that reason, but have realized what a versatile piece of equipment it actually is. Need to do a distillation but don’t have enough room? Take one stand with two clamps and you can set up a distillation using a Dean stark and a Liebig column vertically and the footprint is barely larger than your mantle. Leave the stopcock open and use some tubing to direct your distillate where you need it to go. Need to do a fractional distillation but don’t want to continuously be watching the thermometer? Leave the stopcock closed and do your thing. Dean stark with a reflux column on it will continue to reflux if you forget about it. Just dump the stopcock occasionally and the worst you can overshoot is ~30ml so you don’t have to run the entire fraction again. While not as efficient as a vigreux column, the Dean stark does offer a bit of separation because the vertical piece is long enough for some higher boiling point fractions to condense before going over to the reflux column above. Not sure when your solvent is going to distill off? Fill the graduated column with fresh solvent and dump off 5-10ml at a time and look for biphasic separation (if immiscible) or refractive changes (if miscible). Don’t have/don’t want to clean/use a claisen adapter to keep adding your reaction mixture to the distillation/reflux? Pour it right in the top, dump the graduated section, replace your solvent and keep distilling. DISCLAIMER: I’m a total hack self-taught chemist, so please, PLEASE, consider that if you’re crazy enough to take my advice, but I would say this is one of the most used items in my lab!
Review: Fast shipping of a good quality apparatus. Very affordable as well. Others on desertcart are in the hundreds range.
