I find that they work fine if used on a regular basis, but become hard or impossible to calibrate if they sit for long periods of time after being used. I try to calibrate them at least once a month using both 7.0 and 4.0 calibration fluid. I don't keep the probe in any type of fluid in between uses -- just test the water and replace the cap.
