They can go in the dishwasher, top shelf. I'm sure the maker is worried about water absorption, but it's not a big deal. The tube did split, so I taped it so it doesn't break in two. Even with that, the cost and durability makes this a pretty good product. Even if the whole set was to be replaced every year, (which it won't), it would be worth it. Especially with non stick pans.They are hand wash only. Strike 1 They can't soak in water Strike 2. They look really nice on my counter, and so far have worked well. Afraid to use the tongs, as they are really thin. Might be okay for shrimp. For 2 bucks a utensil, I guess they are okay. Hence the 3 stars. They're designed well, the handles are surprisingly well angled, it has a variety of utensils, and a nice container, but they're still made of bamboo - a very porous wood prone to splintering. They get a little softer when used in boiling water, and when cleaned the cut edges start to splinter and tear off pieces of sponge, and there is no way around this.I recommend getting beech or olive spoons instead, or another similar kind of wood.
