My current finish is matte black.** A: It isn't recommended. Best idea is to get the entire piece blasted so that when you use the parkerizing solution it will all match. **Q: Hi ,can you phosphate cast iron?** A: Yes I have. I use the solution for automotive purposes. Different grades of steel turn different shades of dark gray. Some brackets on engine are cast iron and have turned out well! After careful de-greasing, I placed the parts in a warmed tank with this solution mixed 4 to 1 with demineralized water. The coating looks great and is far more durable than the quick bluing that I have tried in the past. So far, there is no corrosion on any of the treated parts. Be aware, anything that isn't perfectly prepared, will not coat well. I have a thumb-print in one of my pieces that I just can't get rid of.
