I find the preparation instructions unnecessarily convoluted; I just put one pack in a half gallon mason jar with water, let it sit for a day, and Bob's your uncle. I do recommend being very careful if you squeeze the bag to get the last of the brew out of it, as one of them split when I did that, but otherwise I've had no problems.
