It is purposely underenginered to have a shortened useful life. Being a mechanical engineer I took my Wrapmaster apart to see if I could fix it. The latch is about half the thickness it should be so it can snap,which is what happened to me, or will round over so that the latch pops open under the pressure of the cutting bar springs. So what makes me assume it's designed to fail? The company sells replacement latches for $5.00 plus shipping for a part at should sell for $0.25 or if a truly concerned and reputable company given freely to the customer. I totally took mine apart, glued a reinforment piece to the back of the latch and put a piece of thin metal on the receiver (I refuse to give them the satisfaction) works great. Doing the foil unit tomorrow. Lookup Stretch-tite Wrap'N Snap on Amazon same principle, but looks to have an improved latch. I just bought one to check out.
