And if you buy a prepaid card that's already activated it will stop working, but if you buy one like this and sign up for their service with a credit/debit card it and went over your data cap it'll charge your card. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works Well and Can Be Used to Unlock Phones Tied to AT&T *by K***A on April 17, 2016* I bought this for a purpose other than using LycaMobile in the US on my cell phones. The SIM card is linked to T-Mobile, and I used it to unlock three cell phones I had that were locked to AT&T - two were Android based, and one was an iPhone. When travelling abroad, we want to use a local carrier, and not pay the roaming costs for a phone tied to AT&T or AT&T reseller. I had the unlock codes for the Androids, but needed a SIM tied to a different carrier (the iPhone doesn't require an unlock code). This worked perfectly. When we do go on foreign travel, I plan to buy and use a LycaMobile SIM for the country we're visiting.As to the LycaMobile SIM I did received, it came nested from large to smallest SIM card sizes (referred to as "Standard", "Micro" and "Nano". You just punch out the size you need. As it turned out, the android phones (a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and a Motorola Moto E 4G LTE) required the "Micro" size and the iPhone required the "Nano" size. I punched out the "Micro" size first and used it to unlock one of the two Android devices. Then from the "Micro" size I punched out the "Nano" size and used it to unlock the iPhone. Finally, I placed the "Nano" size back within the border of the larger "Micro" size and used it to unlock the other Android device. The border material on the SIM appears to be a plasticized polymer, and it's rigid enough that you can reinstall the "Nano" into the "Micro", and then the "Micro" back into the "Standard", all for safekeeping. The reason I did the androids out of order is that I didn't have the unlock code for the second Android device before needing to unlock the iPhone.To unlock your phone, you either need to have purchased it outright, or been on your carrier long enough to satisfy contract commitments. This was true for all our phones. Contact your carrier and ask for the unlock code (android) or to be unlocked (iPhone). When they approve, they will provide an unlock code (for Androids, an 8 digit numeric code). Power down the phone, and remove the SIM card. It's location varies by phone; you can search for how to remove your SIM card based on your phone model on the internet. Now that your SIM card is removed, put the LycaMobile SIM card in, and power back up (no need, if you removed the back cover, to put the cover back on). For androids, you will get a message that the SIM card is not recognized, and to unlock the phone, type in the 8 digit unlock code. Make sure you do that carefully -- you only get so many chances! Once accepted, it unlocks the phone from the carrier it was locked to, and you can use LycaMobile, or any other company that you choose to for cell phone service. Or, if you unlocked it but want to remain on your current carrier, just power down, remove the LycaMobile SIM, and reinstall your provider's SIM. Power up and you are back in operation. Then, if you do go on an international trip, when you get to your destination, buy a local SIM card there for intra-country use (you'll get a phone number associated with that country). For Europe, it's often far cheaper to use someone like LycaMobile there, for calling not just within the country you're visiting, but also any other European country plus the US! An added bonus!! When you return home, just remove the foreign SIM and replace with your US based SIM card. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ How to Port Your Number in and out *by T***R on February 24, 2015* Another budget mobile service thats a PITA to switch / port over to. Here is what you need to do:1. Buy the SIM on Amazon.2. Buy a plan on Lyca (They will send you an email with a "PIN" code at the bottom. KEEP THIS EMAIL, KEEP THIS PIN somewhere!!)3. Call Lyca and request your port. KEEP THE REFERENCE # they give you. Also, make sure you have your CORRECT account number and password to your old carrier.4. It takes less than 30 minutes to port. Once it's done, you wont know it. (They tell you 4-24 hours but thats not true.)5. Basically, two ways you find out the port is done. 1. Call your number. If it says it's disconnected, and you can RECEIVE texts, the port is done. 2. Call CS and give them your reference number. They will tell you its been ported.6. At this point, get the email with your PIN number, and dial this on your phone: *612*<8-digit PIN># (or *611*<13-digit PIN>#) and press call like you are making a call.7. At this point, you should see a message that the code ran and within 5-10 minutes your should have service!How to Port Out:1. Call CS 612 and choose option 5 (Have your "pin" from above ready.)2. Explain why you are leaving blah blah blah3. Ask for your account number because your account number is NOT your phone number.4. Once you have your pin and acct number you can provide this info to the new provider! ### ⭐ DO NOT BUY!! worst customer service *by A***R on April 3, 2017* Do not buy! I brought this for my parents to use in US when they come over to visit, but it does not have good signal coverage even in a not-so-small town. I also brought a plan that claims that it could make international calls, but never be able to.AND the lesson is DO NOT consent to auto-renew!!! My parents left (it already passed the plan's required initial contract length), so I followed their instruction on how to text to customer service and stop auto-pay, but found that I still get charged for renewing. so I have to call the customer service. It is the worst I experienced!!!! If you have 30min free, you can give it a try-- you may get to talk to someone. I mentioned in the beginning that I want to cancel because my parents do not need to use it anymore, but guess what? I was told that I could not unlink MY credit card from the auto-renew program because I was not the "user" of the sim card!!! and the person on the other end even reminded me "the phone conversation is being recorded, you said in the beginning that it's your parents using the card", they want my parents to make an international phone call to stop the auto-renew process that bills to my account.
