Top of case has 2 leather faces ( I put my name one on, in Japanese) and bottom has one full leather cover to prevent punch through when carrying it with the sling. I have placed two Katanas and one bokken in mine with no problem. NOT airline safe. I worked for an airline for 30 years. This bag will not handle the punishment. Buy a piece of PVC pipe that will hold the Katana. Cap and glue one end and cap the other with locking device like a cable run through holes and pad lock.
