PSI services in Dallas for example does not allow the use of it because it is an electronic device. I came into that issue for my written but luckily I brought the standard E6B as a backup. **Q: How does this compare to the asa cx-3 flight computer? do they do the same things or does the cx-3 have functions the e6b does not?** A: The units have the same basic functions, however the CX-3 is capable of making more calculations than the E6-B. The CX-3 is also updateable through firmware. **Q: Does it calculate density altitude?** A: Has all function of E6B Aviation Calculator **Q: Is there backspace on this? It's certain that if anything is wrong with it Sporty's or Jeppessen will make it right they have invoked that much confidence in me over the 35+ years I have been a customer. Matter of fact this is my 4th E6B calculator, not because they break, but because the airplane did. Or something went horribly wrong with what was supposed to be faultless engineering, and after the hard landing you leave your stuff behind, and promptly exit the aircraft! No these things are not water proof or fire resistant so they get the end result of. Oh s*** we stopped and nobody is bleeding! But the airplane is a mess at the end of the hello highway! Time to go immediately! To be fair I lost one on loan to a friend, and another to a student who really earned it by scoring 100 on the private pilots written exam. They are durable, dependable, and much simpler to use when compared to the manual circular analog old school E6B. However when training a new pilot they must master the old school methods before I will let them use this. This then becomes primary and the old school version is backup. So the only way this can get screwed up is if FedEx forgets where they parked the airplane, or Boeing left something out of it!
