Review: The only seed/fertilizer product that has worked. This is what you need! - Just a quick note before getting into this. The images attached were taken ~ 7 weeks apart. Mid spring to end of spring. Just before prep and treatment to fully developed. During these 7 weeks normally the yard would somewhat green... but its always been a leafy, crab grassy, weedy mess that would die off and leave nothing but moss. The lawn was always good from far but far from good. So, to be blunt, the property was a WRECK since we moved in... but the ‘before’ pictures make it seem much worst than it usually looks at this time. Now to the review. Our yard is 15kish sq ft of sun/shade mix. I ordered 5-40lb bags to really cover it. We dethatched and also scarified the lawn before tossing away all the moss and dead debris. Basically leaving 70% soil left over. I applied the scotts 3-in-1 Thick’r immediately after prep and followed the directions to a T. Watered twice a day. Never too much or too little. Used starter fertilizer to get things going. Then sat back and waited. Watered. Waited. And repeat. First, the negative - it took almost 3 weeks to receive the product. But with everything going on (covid-19) I’ll let this slide. It also took twice as long, if not longer, to start growing in, than stated. The bag, and reviews, state 7-10 up to 14 days. After 21 with next to no growth I nearly gave up watering and called the pro’s. But after around 30 days it really started filling in. By week 5 it was full. Not sure what was stopping it, maybe weather or sun, but something jump started the growth and it took right off. Since then it’s continued to fill in. At week 6 we mowed for the first time and it’s only grown thicker since. I am extremely happy with where we are today on this lawn rehab and it’s completely thanks to this product. We had similarly tried to treat the property in the past with just seed and fertilizer from another brand and it was a complete waste of money. Nothing grew. Without hesitation I would recommend this product to anyone living in the area. Already have to several neighbors who have commented on the property.
Review: It works! Takes time but results are fantastic - This works..I mixed in more grass seed and used twice on lawn in September spaced 3 weeks apart. With low fertilizer content I figured I would go for it. In NJ we have had a ton of rain and it was mild thru early November and I see a big difference in my lawn. I manually dethatched, applied with extra seed, watered daily for the first 2 weeks then let mother nature take over. Second application I did before predicted rain and 3 months later, even with the cold weather, it looks great. I imagine some will die due to freeze, but it is better than overseeding alone, and the grass has a nice deep green color. I mixed with kentucky blue on my front lawn since there is very little foot traffic, and in backyard with my 80lb dog, I used heat tolerant blue, perennial rye and some kentucky blue mixed in. This product eventually filled in damage from my dog, but still recommend the lawn repair for large areas of dead or no grass, and recommend adding seed to that product too if quicker germination is needed. I will buy again and use in the spring a month after applying the weed prevention fertilizer.

Standard for all my reviews: When reviewing products, I always remain objective and honest about the product or service. I always review with information that I feel others would like to know about the product as I always assume what I'm writing will influence for or against the purchase. I always try to go above and beyond surface characteristics and input into quality, value and application. Most importantly, I will always end the review with an answer as to whether I'd purchase the product again which I believe is the most critical question pertaining to the item. To manufacturers: Want me to review your items, just let me know! I read a lot of reviews from people frustrated with their grass seed. Not all seed or products are the same in how they are planted, ongoing care, etc. Some include built in mulch, fertilizers, etc. while others are just seed. This 3 in 1 contains the seed, fertilizer and a soil improver. Most contain the first two items and I'm a bit skeptical about the "soil improver" though they claim in creates a healthier root system. In my history and experience, while that may be true, most other variables are over-arching before things like a soil improver, meaning that your native soil, depth of soil, drainage and watering habits will determine how well your grass grows and looks. But alas, it has all three for your seeding enjoyment. But to all of you who struggle with using seed, you MUST prepare properly. If you expect to simply walk around with a spreader and end up with a lawn like they show in the pictures, or successfully have a thick patch where a bald spot was, it's likely not going to happen. Between the rain washing seed away, sun baking the seed and the birds thanking you for putting their food on the ground instead of in a feeder where it's so crowded, your results may not be what you expect. Clear the area, if you can, of any debris, dead grass (Thatch), etc. Then be sure to break up or loosen the ground/soil with a garden tool or the like to a depth of an inch or so. Then you can apply your seed. For best results, then cover with a peat, soil, mulch or something to get the seed out of view and away from the sun. Lightly water to keep moist for the next 10-14 days to allow the seeds to germinate and take root. As for this product, I've had success and no success on multiple spots but generally the success has been good. I don't seem to get quite the germination I have from other products in the past but good enough that I can leave it a 4-star rating. I just focus far more on soil prep to make sure I have a good foundation. I will say that this bag will last longer as it doesn't contain the mulch which also functions like the top layer and fertilizer, it only contains the seed, fertilizer and soil improver. So it gets my "good not great" rating meaning that I would purchase it again but would use another product that I've found more effective. It's solid, not great.
