It can be used with other fibers such as wool, alpaca, leather, and other protein-based fibers, however the tie dye dye solution should be mixed with either vinegar or citric acid for best results. Before application, your fabric or material should be soaked in a solution of one cup of soda ash to one gallon of water for about 20 minutes. This makes the clothing dye permanent and creates a washfast result. To get an even, brilliant color, use a ratio of one cup to 2 teaspoons of dye. This can be modified by diluting the mixture to create soft, dreamy pastels or increasing the concentration of dye to create deeper colors.
