I found this and thought I'd give it a try. The scale has a nice heft to it, and looks to be well made.I use mode E4, and this is what I would recommend anyone using this for espresso to use. My setup at home now is an ECM S-Automatik 64 grinder and a Rancilio Silvia with triple basket and bottomless portafilter.I have the grinder set to dispense 21g of coffee, and I then use a distributor before tamping. Once I lock the portafilter into the grouphead, I turn on the scale, let it tare, then put my glass on, and it will tare again (this is in the E4 mode), and then I start brewing. Once coffee hits the cup, the display blinks once and then starts timing.I usually start timing when I hit the brew switch, but I can easily adapt to when it hits the cup (usually an offset of around 5-6 seconds). This makes it so that I don't have to monitor a second timer, which is great.I brew to a 2:1 ratio, so for the 21g of grounds that goes into the basket, I extract 42g of espresso, and with this scale, I can also ensure that the extraction has taken the desired amount of time - I typically like it to be right around 30 seconds from first drip.Since I roast my own beans, there is some variability from batch to batch, which means that I also need to adjust my grinder regularly (even with the same batch of beans, the grinder may need to be adjusted over the course of a few days). I check the dose and the extraction time to let me know when I need to make those adjustments, and this scale simply makes that easier for me to diagnose.I will see how this scale operates over time and how long it lasts for, but so far, I am very impressed given the price.I will also say that the batteries that come with it are exceptionally cheap, and should be discarded immediately. I personally use rechargeable batteries, and at minimum I would recommend putting in brand name batteries, you don't want to deal with leaking batteries.Because of my experience with the first one, I have just bought another one for my espresso setup at work. I have my old setup there, a Baratza Preciso grinder and a Saeco Via Venezia machine, and this will help me to ensure consistency of the espresso I make there as well. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Good Coffee Scale with Some Cons *by C***O on Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2019* The build quality is great and seems you paid more than your money's worthIt will truly help you in making your coffee if you will follow the presets or modes. If not this is not the coffee scale for you.Suggestions:1. I hope the Fully Manual Mode is truly manual wherein you dont need to follow the process2. The buttons are sometimes difficult to press. I wish its more sensitive3. I wish it also has bypass wherein if you lift the carafe or container with the grounds it will not reset when in Full Manual Mode4. I wish the sensitivity of the scale is a little bit toned down because I encounter times that when the wind blows from an electric fan. The reading will fluctuate.Nevertheless I am still enjoying this coffee scale. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars Dim display, poor design, mediocre performance. NOT recommended. *by G***A on Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2019* I have been using this scale for a couple months to do single-cup coffee brewing. (Grounds + water.)1. The display is barely visible. See photos, this is in ordinary kitchen indoor lighting.2. The battery life is short. I have to recharge my high-quality NiMH cells every 2 weeks. (Other scales of similar size and type have run for 6 months on 1 set of the same AA batteries.)3. The battery-access door is secured with 2 separate screws (see photo.) I have never seen a small scale like this require un-screwing to access batteries. Design fail.4. The weigh amount are not stable. For example if I put 80.0g of water in a cup (after tare-ing the cup to 0g,) it reads 80.0g -- but, after a few seconds the weight starts going down in increments of about 0.1g per 5 seconds. So, after a minute passes roughly 1.2g have been "lost" from the weight. This could be due to either lack of temperature compensation, or due to the battery voltage gradually dropping under the high load this scale likely imposes. Never had this problem with other small digital scales I've owned.5. The type & number of included "modes" with various automatic timer intervals are creative but overall too complex to use. Also, the buttons are all "touch sensitive" capacitance-type, not tactile. The only way to know if they are functioning is to see the results on the very-dim display. I frequently have to try 2 or 3 times to hit the "tare" button. It is right next to "units" with no tactical separation between them.
