## Description

Product description Master Flame Class A Fire Retardant is a professional-grade, American-made formula that creates a protective barrier on absorbent materials to prevent the spread of flames and inhibit the development of toxic smoke. Once applied, Master Flame penetrates the material's cellular structure, slowing ignition and preventing fire from traveling across treated surfaces. Master Flame has been tested in accordance with NFPA 701, ASTM E84, and California Title 19. NOTE: Master Flame is not compatible with waterproof materials or polymer materials, as Master Flame is not able to penetrate the cellular structure. Tested and Approved 3 Easy Ways to Apply Spray On. Evenly coat surfaces using any standard spray device. Roll On. Cover large areas quickly using a paint roller. Soak. Submerge smaller items in a container for full saturation. What Is Master Flame NOT Compatible With? Master Flame is not compatible with waterproof, polymer, synthetic, nylon, or silk materials. Wood must be unfinished and free of existing paint or sealer. How Does Master Flame Work? Master Flame soaks into absorbent materials, creating a protective barrier that slows ignition, prevents flames from spreading, and reduces toxic smoke. It dries clear with no odor or residue and meets the highest fire safety standards in the industry, including NFPA 701, ASTM E84 (Class A-rated), and California Title 19. What Does Master Flame Work On? Master Flame is compatible with a wide range of absorbent materials including wood, fabric, cotton, canvas, muslin, burlap, hay, thatch, straw, paper, cardboard, jute, and more. Master Flame is Safe for Occupied Spaces Master Flame's professional-grade formula is non-toxic, eco-friendly, PBDE-free, and safe for occupied spaces like homes, schools, offices, retirement communities, and more. How Much Master Flame Do You Need? From a small piece of fabric to an entire job site, Master Flame comes in the right size for any project.

Review: It Works. That's it, and that's all. - Before spraying this on a piece of plywood that I wanted to protect, I sprayed it on a big piece of corrugated cardboard. Which is what I use as kindling to start fires. And then I tried to light it with an Aim & Flame. It did not burn. I don't know how it works, and it's a tad pricey, but if you want to make something fireproof, this stuff seems to get the job done. I also mixed it with some primer on another project (which they say you can do). Made the paint thinner, which I expected. But then it started to really thicken up after awhile, like Thompson's waterproofing product. I applied it, and it went on fine, but a little grainy. I assumed from this that it has some active ingredients that really harden surfaces and paint. So I think this was a good buy. If it ever has to stop a fire, it's a great buy.
Review: Does it work - Did a test on an old piece of wood. It seems to really work. Remember it is a fire retardant not fire proof

## Questions & Answers

**Q: My garage has acrylic paint on the walls and ceiling. Can I use this effectively as a topcoat? Or if not, is there an alternate product?**
A: This will not work as a top coat, Master Flame has to be applied prior.

Unfortunately we do not have an effective product for you. Thank you!

**Q: How do you use it on palm tree leafs. Do you have to let them dry out first, and how often do you reapply?**
A: Let the palm leaves dry out, then spray them on both sides. Let dry for 24 hours. Thank you!

**Q: Does this meet flame retardant technical bulletin 133? That's what our town requires for fabric in our school.**
A: It meets the requirements for schools in Virginia Beach, VA according to the Fire Marshall who re-inspected our school after we treated all curtains and bulletin Boards that were fabric covered.

**Q: Can I apply this product directly to eps foam ( expanded polystyrene ) ? and then applied water base paint?**
A: Depends upon what you're trying to do with the EPS. It might adhere, but it probably won't keep the EPS foam from bursting into flames when it gets hot enough to outgas. I have seen requirements to cover structural plastics with Type X gypsum to provide an acceptable level of smoke and flame containment. One EPS product I reviewed had flame spread of 20 and smoke of 100-300, which might actually meet "Class A interior wall and ceiling finish" requirements (UL 723), but only to limited height (e.g., 48 inches), unless also tested under NFPA 253 for flashover. You would need to find a product that is intended for your purpose (e.g., as interior finish), rather than trying to coat a dangerous product with fire retardant.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does it work
*by R***N on May 5, 2025*

Did a test on an old piece of wood. It seems to really work. Remember it is a fire retardant not fire proof

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This product was tested and found effective by my local fire department.
*by X***R on April 16, 2026*

Used this as a seal coat on wall framing , sheetrock and wood trim. I made treated and untreated samples of the framing wood, sheetrock and painted wallpaper on sheetrock. They were tested by the local fire department. The untreated samples burned easily, but the treated pieces were difficult to burn.
