This inaccuracy of the device just does not allow it to constantly strip even 20 gauge wire. I have a lot of 12 AWG - 4 AWG wire, and most stripping tools cut off some of the strands because they're so fine. That's annoying mostly because it makes a mess of little whiskers. This tool doesn't do that though. It cleanly pulls the insulation off every time.I haven't tried on small wire. I suspect it will tear that sometimes. I have also had some trouble on largish wire with PVC insulation.
