Review: Good, but not cheap - I fitted this to my garden shed and it only took about an hour in total, but this did include using a ladder to fit the outside alarm unit. When I tested it, it was so loud right next to the internal alarm (which I didn't know how to switch off because I didn't read the instructions thoroughly) that it made me feel sick; not something a would-be thief would want to tolerate for very long. The parts are made nicely, and overall, are easy to fit, however a slight niggle is that a power cut makes the time/date setting zero itself - and we get numerous power cuts. Whether this also switches the alarm off, I don't yet know. Various other add-ons are available, some giving further options. Easy to add to if you want. *by S***N on 5 April 2023* I was getting quotes from different local alarm fitters and found 99% of them fit wireless alarm systems. After a little bit of research I decided that I could probably fit a wireless system myself. I chose the Yale system because I recognized the name, and they also have pet friendly sensors in their range. After a little bit of research I found a few forums which scoffed and slated the system, mainly something to do with the alarm's anti-jamming function not being as good as professionally installed alarms (it may be worth mentioning that the those criticizing the alarm were professional fitters which is good because they obviously know what they are talking about, but it is worth keeping in mind that any time one of these Yale systems is installed they do lose a £700 booking so I did take their opinions with a pinch of salt). After considering that I am more concerned with opportunists who may try to break in rather than someone with an expensive alarm jammer specifically targeting my house when there are plenty of non-alarmed houses in my area that would be so much easier to break in to, I bought this alarm. I purposely opted for the older Yale IA, rather than the newer version with the app and smart hub. I already have a Blink camera and HIVE heating plugged into the router as well as a couple of other hard wired things so it was short of space. Plus, I really like the larger keypad with the screen and tag sensor for easy entry. I currently do not have a phone line set up, but the alarm works perfectly well without it and I do plan to set this up at a later date. The tag is very easy to use and I preferred it to the fob which looks like you could press the buttons accidentally when in your pocket or bag. Plus I could buy two more tags for not particular alarm competent family members who have spare keys for emergencies. If they do need to come in they can just press the tag to the keypad and the alarm deactivates straight away. The tags were 2 for £5 and additional fobs are far more expensive. I got the IA-210 which is the basic package, with the idea that I would add the specific accessories that would suit us best (it was also a lot cheaper this way). With this kit I got: 1x Keypad 1x Siren Box 1x normal PIR sensor 1x Door contact 2x Tags I bought additional: 3x Pet friendly PIR sensors 1x Door contact 2x door tags The set up was relatively easy - you will need to use the extended manual rather than the one included in the kit. It is very easy to find on the Yale website but just seems strange to not include the full instructions in the box. When testing all of the devices registered a score of 9 which is the strongest signal so that was reassuring. The reasons for not giving the full 5*s are down to the set up. I was getting an orange light and a loud beep every 30 seconds. I learned that this indicates a fault in the system. When I got the system log up it only said that there was a 'tamper' fault but didn't tell me what device this was on. I guessed that it must have been on the keypad itself even though it was attached the wall and secured properly. I ended up having to take the back of the key pad and found that there was a little contact which acted as the tamper switch which was not connecting properly. A tiny push on the switch and putting it all back together fixed the problem, but that isn't really something you should have to do during set up. The other reason for 4*s was when it came to testing the alarms to make sure that I had placed the sensors well and they were picking me up (and not picking the dog up). After setting the alarm I was making very obvious and exaggerated movements but the sensors wouldn't pick me up at all. Very stressful after fitting the entire system. I looked up the troubleshooting guide on the Yale website and it stated that the sensors need around a minute after the alarm has been set to work properly. I thought this sounded like rubbish that they had tried to fob me off with, but if I leave it for a minute and it picks me up straight away in every room. The pet sensors also do not pick up the dog. Overall I am happy with the product. I have been able to customize it the way I want to and it works well. All of the components look very nice.
