Feels like balsa wood painted with flat latex paint. Rough feel. Could have been sanded to make the wood smooth. Using a gloss paint instead of flat paint would have helped to make it more finished. Adding a few coats of varnish, lacquer or polyurethane would also have made it feel more finished and well made. Certainly not worth $20.
