They give a subtle industrial look and really set off the black blades. Since the hardware for all our ceiling fans is brass, this helps pull it all together and makes the brass seem complimentary. (I am not a fan of brass hardware, yet this was an affordable option rather than replace all the ceiling fans). They dim properly and give a warmth to the look. Not sure of the energy efficiency -- didnt monitor our electric bill. So far they have lasted quite a while.
