It is meant to serve two purposes: 1) block the sun for all three of us, and 2) block my dogs' views from something I don't want them barking at. This umbrella is perfect. It is large and provides plenty of shade and makes it easy to block off my dogs. The coverage is about 9 or 10 inches more than most umbrellas. The material provides great shade in the sun.
