## Description

Product Description:Art Clay Silver Clay - 50gm - NEW FORMULA. We think this might just be the ideal clay! •It has a better workability and a longer working time (longer than Slow Dry!) than the current Art Clay Silver products. •It retains and accepts moisture easier than the exisiting silver clay types, which means it is easier to keep supple and much easier to reconstitute if it dries. •It has similar drying times (when applying heat). •It carves and files easier in the dry stage than the existing formulas. •Fire with kiln, torch, or gas stove. Using a kiln the recommended time and temperatures are 30 minutes at 650°C on a continuum to only 5 minutes at 800°C. •Shrinkage 8-9%. The clay can be hallmarked as fine silver at any UK Assay Office. The 50gm package contains 2 individually wrapped 25gm blocks of clay.

Review: Excellent Product, super pricing! - I am an independent jewelry designer/maker who does commission work for private clients, most of whom are looking for something original and one-of-a-kind unique. Although I also work with sheet metals in gold and fine silver, ArtClay Silver allows me to really stretch the limits of my designs while still being able to provide a piece of jewelry made of an exceptionally pure quality silver (.999Fine). It also allows me to treat the earth kindly as ArtClay is made of 100% purely recycled silver (the other guy, PMC, can't claim that high a percentage of recycle in their product, unless they have changed their philosophy over the last few years). Since 2002, I have used both types of precious metal clays from the two largest companies and I can say that ArtClay, for me, is the better product and it has a much better pricetag! In my experience, PMC made by Mitsubishi Co. dries out faster, doesn't torch fire as well (both do approx. the same in a kiln) as ArtClay and is too high priced when set next to ArtClay. I've also had PMC, unlike the ArtClay, occasionally shrink a good deal more than advertised which can ruin a design at critical points. I've also had several packages of PMC ruined when the binder turned black after opening and could not be burned out.. it also could not be eaten off with acid nor would any other method remove the black patches throughout the silver after firing. I had to toss it out because I didn't know what it was.. some kind of bacteria carried in the binder? Or a chemical that reacted to the air/heat/cool.. the possibilities were endless and not one technical expert could figure the problem out, so: Tossed! This vendor was a quick ship, priced well below 50gr of PMC and I am about to reorder so..
Review: Easy to work with and makes beautiful fine silver pieces! - Love this clay and at the best price! Shipping takes a little longer but is well worth the wait! Very little shrinkage and can be torch fired so you don't have to use a kiln. I save up my desertcart points and the price is even better!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can art clay silver be combined with pcm 3 ?**
A: Hi, I have combined them together when I have small amounts left over without any problems.

**Q: Is this Sterling Silver Clay or .999**
A: This is fine silver clay (.999). It is not Art clay sterling nor Art Clay 950.

**Q: The description says that it can be fired in an oven. What temp and for how long?**
A: The minimum firing temperature is 1200 degrees fahrenheit and the hold/sintering time depends on the thickness of your sculpture, but the minimum hold time at 1200 degrees is 30 minutes. You can find the equipment for this by doing a search for "precious metal clay kiln."

**Q: Can this be polished to a mirror finish?**
A: HI David,
After creating the jewelry and firing it, the piece is then tumbled with steel shot for about an hour and then hand polished. The result is a nice, shiny piece. But I can't say it is a "mirror" finish because that is difficult to achieve. Patina is typically added to bring out the texture. This product does produce a nice, heirloom quality piece of jewelry.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love Art Clay Silver! Works great, but make sure you know how to use it.
*by J***R on February 22, 2022*

I've been working with PMC clays for years. It can be difficult to use as first but you have to give yourself the time to learn how to use it and fire it. I really like Art Clay Silver, it works great in a paste and lump form. I used this for a class I taught recently and it worked great! Plenty for everyone to use. And with proper use, thickness, and firing all the pieces come out great! With a little less shrinkage rate than PMC brand. Using a kiln is much easier for thicker pieces but you can use a hand torch or a portable camp stove. For those with less than 4 star reviews, they seem to have not done the proper research on how to use PMC clays. So if you're just starting out, watch some videos, do the research, and be patient with yourself. It's not like an air dry clay or pottery clay. It's a bit more sticky, I recommend using rubber gloves. Get yourself a book too if you're going to be serious about making PMC jewelry. It's very helpful!
