Blue Exit is the new way of getting rid of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) without using antibiotics or compounds which contain copper. Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae, slime algae or smear algae) often arise as a result of fertilization, an imbalanced bacteria situation, seriously contaminated bottom material (rotting) or too low nitrate levels. Blue Exit effectively gets rid of cyanobacteria. Blue Exit is easy and safe to use and is harmless to fish, shrimps, molluscs and plants. If there is a serious infestation, the Blue Exit treatment can be prolonged for a few days, even with a double dose. Directions treatment 10 ml per 80 liters (0.5 ml every 8 liters) daily for five consecutive days. Remove absorbent materials (such as activated carbon) first shake well before use. Cyanobacteria will disappear ten following the last dose. From first dose application to past 14 do not refill or make changes water in aquarium or use as filters. Since then I have followed other people’s advice i.e using a higher dose for a longer period, fish have been happy with this, also have left light off. When I next clean the filters I will do it in water which has blue exit in and the same when I top up water, to see if that will prevent the return of blue exit. Review: Works if you do it right - This did not appear to work at first after the suggested dose and treatment phase. I guess my outbreak was quite serious, it was everywhere. I noted that in the instructions it says you can increase the dose or use it for a prolonged period. I decided to go for the prolonged period and just kept dosing the regular amount each day for about 12 days. This approach worked. I also made sure to remove any floating algae each day too. I leave the snails in my tank as they are good for cleaning algae and I think they enjoyed the dead algae ! Whilst dosing, due I think to all the dying algae the water became very cloudy. But after about two weeks all the blue-green algae has gone and the filter has caught up so that my tank looks pristine again. It’s worth buying. I have not actually found anything else that would get rid and this product really works. TURN THE AQUARIUM LIGHTS OFF!! *by S***R on 6 April 2022* I was a bit disappointed the first time I used this product. The slime reduced and almost disappeared. After the 14 day period, I carried out the normal water change and filter maintenance, but the slime gradually came back as bad as it had been before the treatment. I left it alone for a week to give the fish a break from the treatment and then tried again. This time I gave a slightly higher dose than was instructed and I turned the aquarium lights off for 2 weeks. Now there is no sign of the slime. I think turning off the lights was what helped the most. It doesn't say that in the instructions, but it makes sense as the cyanobacteria photosynthesise. I should have thought of it before. Fish are happy as am I! I have read that people put a precautionary dose in weekly or monthly.
