I was not ready to shell out big bucks for something that might be a passing interest like the guitar I bought her the year before. To my surprise, she has been playing her flute almost everyday since it arrived. On her own, she pulled up some you tube videos and has learned to play to some of her favorite music( ex: Christina Perri's Thousand years). I'm not an expert in music by any means, but I will say that the flute sounds really good. For a kid who has never truly played an instrument until now, she has been playing the he&% out of this flute, daily in band class, and practicing at home each night. The only issue we have had so far was a note not playing. This was a couple of days after she received it. I was a bit irritated thinking I was already going to have to return it. After really looking at it, I realized that a wire for opening and closing the note had moved (probably while she was cleaning it). Once put back in place, there have not been any more problems. I am really happy with this purchase. Good sound at a reasonable price.
