For me, after moving everything into a dedicated closet, some devices depend upon IR to control them. There are a lot of solutions out there and this one, a "no frills" hard wired works seamlessly. Of course, you have to spend time and run a separate ethernet line dedicated for the device itself but in the long run, there is no delays, no wireless transmission hiccups and the response is as if the AV device is in the same room.
