The"Commuter" case is designed for basic protection of the phone while retaining pocketability in a jeans pocket. Quite honestly, I felt I was ripped off because all I got was a slim layer of rubber and a plastic which was stylish, but didnt seem to offer that much protection.An Otterbox Defender case would, of course, be much thicker with the rubber and the plastic wrap around case. It would be so thick to the point where it wouldnt be pocketable. While you cant drop the Commuter case with confidence, the Defender can be dropped from heights of 5+ feet with confidence.This PSRAT Note 8 case is certainly thicker and more substantial than the Otterbox "Commuter". Furthermore, it actually seems more like a box and raises the surface up so the curved screen wont take a hit if it drops. The "Commuter" on the other hand doesnt seem raised enough to offer protection for the screen. I would certainly feel more comfortable with the phone dropping to the floor with this case than with the "Commuter". It doesnt seem like it would be comfortable in a jeans pocket, but it seems to fit my slacks and khaki pockets quite well.While I do enjoy this case especially for this cheap price, it is NOT a Defender or a Ballistic bumper style case. True bumper style cases have larger more substantial bumpers on the corner and the rubber portion much thicker. Furthermore both Ballistic and Defender cases come with a belt holder which offers even more wrap around protection. The belt holder is because the case makes it so thick you cant pocket it. Todays Defender cases wrap the entire phone with a thick substantial rubber and over the rubber is a thicker plastic case. The Ballistic style cases have large bumpers on each corner and also can only be worn on the belt.Think of this case as a "Commuter" on steroids which offers better protection all the way around. However, I think it would be good for 2-3 foot drops, but not the 5+ foot running drop onto hard concrete. Understand though that a case which would protect against 5+ foot drops will have to be so large you can only wear it on the belt.This is a very good deal and if you are waiting on the Defender or a larger more substantial bumper style like the Ballistic case you can buy this cheap case until it comes out. It will certainly offer more protection than the current crop of "Commuter" style cases which offer a thin bit of plastic and rubber which isnt enough to shield the phone from intense drops. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Durable Case with a minor flaw *by M***Z on January 3, 2019* The case itself is durable and have a good feel when holding. The case itself is slightly raised, having the raised lip and edge around the whole screen holding the screen + screen protector down. The case surrounds the edges of the Note 8 without interfering with the edge feature.Only downside with my Samsung note 8 is that the buttons feels like it is always pressed, no feedback when pressing Volume, Bixy, or Power buttons. Barely tapping any of the buttons causes it to react, cannot leave phone on its side. ### ⭐⭐ i kept it but I do not use it... *by T***Y on September 10, 2018* It feels plastic like if it falls it will crack into many pieces. It doesn't feel secure when I hold it 0- I feel like I need to put it in a pouch to protect the phone and case.
