As with all ABDs that cam lock the rope, it does take a while to get used to the device, especially when lead climbing and giving slack (so as to not accidentally engage the cam). Taking in slack is simple, and not all that different to a normal tuber belay device. Lowering is accomplished by using the side lever, with the more you open it the faster the rope will go through. If you panic and pull the lever too far the GriGri+'s anti-panic feature kicks in and re-engages the cam lock, at which point you have to fully close the lever before you can start to lower again. The regular GriGri does not have this anti-panic feature.
