I haven’t found it necessary to do the tape on the roller thing before use, which I see from review can be divisive….. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gallus wee rollers *by L***E on 6 April 2025* Great finish with both gloss and emulsion, would highly recommend seller and product ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good, but more expensive than competitors *by J***N on 16 June 2019* I have been using these alongside mini roller sleeves made by ProDec (Advance and Tiger Stripe), Rota (Professional Silver Stripe), and Axus (Pro-Finish Blue Series). I would like to be able to name a clear winner but, so far, they have all proved perfectly satisfactory when using emulsion. The different brands of sleeves do have very different feels. All are synthetic, but some have a harsher, more synthetic feel than others. They also vary in the density of the microfibre. This may result in subtle differences in performance with different paints. For example, I primed a wall with Bulls Eye 1-2-3 prior to painting with emulsion. This gummed up the Cottam sleeve resulting in the fibres matting down onto the core. This isn't something I have experienced with other sleeves - but it could be down to environmental conditions as much as the sleeve itself. As I can't single out the Cottam sleeves as being significantly better, price becomes a factor. I paid £6.99 for the Cottam sleeves whereas the competitors were priced around £3.50 to £4.50. As it is, I would recommend one of the other brands: probably opting for those made by Axus. If money really is no object, the Wooster mini roller strikes me as the Rolls Royce of mini rollers: both the frame and sleeves seem in a different league. However, it doesn't come without its own problems. For starters, although available through Amazon, it comes from the USA - with the attendant costs and delays. It also locks you into getting Wooster sleeves as it is a different system to other sleeves which are not compatible with it.
