28/12/12Casinos and gambling parlours undergo a dramatic improvement in attendance during warfare.Not so private gambling parties, we can learn why that should be in our own way.As a soldier for the USA 1st Cav during the Vietnam War, I would be asked to put a stop to soldiers on our side gambling with the enemy.Only one rule for play could we afford, which was to confiscate genuine precision dice.Items such as roulette tables were not my duty to lift around nor attempt any interference. Of (let's say) all the sets, card tables, card cloth, roulette wheels, shufflers, cards, only one item was outstanding in that it was considered priceless and not safe under any call to remove or damage; the crap cloth.Most roulette wheels would attract heavy shellfire, there are several well documented instances of this during the second world war.KM
