I live in the middle of nowhere and when the power goes out it is REALLY dark. I used one the other night placed near a mirror to see how it did and worked just as well as the 40 watt bulb I normally use there. I have placed a couple more around my kitchen just to use when power goes out so I can see where I"m going. For 10 bucks, I'm very happy to not trip over my dogs in the complete darkness. Worked perfectly fine, but my batteries seemed to die quickly and when I tried to have them stuck vertically to a surface, they stuck fine but the light would unattach from the back and fall even after locking it in place.
