## Description

All six episodes from the fifth series of the crime drama spin-off from ITV's long-running television show 'Inspector Morse'. Set in 1965, the show follows Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) in his younger years as a police constable. Working alongside his senior partner Detective Inspector Fred Thursday (Roger Allam) and PC James Strange (Sean Rigby), Morse engages in a number of investigations around Oxford, England. The episodes are: 'Muse', 'Cartouche', 'Passenger', 'Colours', 'Quartet' and 'Icarus'.

Review: IS THIS WHAT PERFECTION LOOKS LIKE?! - Can't convey with words how much love I have for this show without it coming across as high-pitched squeals and caps lock but here goes!! Endeavour is a more than worthy prequel to Inspector Morse with subtle links to its predecessor and also to Lewis. It has a stellar cast with Shaun Evans and Roger Allam perfect in the roles of Morse and Thursday, and an equally amazing supporting cast portraying characters that all have time to develop on screen (Sara Vickers as Joan Thursday, Dakota Blue Richards as Shirley Trewlove and Lewis Peek as George Fancy to name but a few). Endeavour can be praised for not shying away from 'period issues' such as racism and sexism whilst remaining worryingly relatable, as it's set in the 60's however there aren't many 'professional' re-occuring female characters par WPC Trewlove, although all re-occuring female characters are very well written and don't fall into the stereotypes of 'a woman of the 60's' something that can only be applauded. Series 5's extended run of 6 episodes instead of 4 allowed more time to be spent on the personal lives of the characters outside of the cases, for example Morse's doomed love life, Joan's relationship with her father Thursday and the romance between Fancy and Trewlove. The longer series also allowed space for growth for the over-arching subplot - the opposing gang feud between Eddie Nero and outsider Cromwell Ames which reaches a devastating conclusion. Each episode of series 5 (and all eps beforehand let's face it) is a work of art in its own right, some inevitably are stronger than others but even the weaker ones are incredibly entertaining, well thought out, well written and compelling, willing you to solve the crime along with the protagonists on screen. Endeavour is a consistently great show (the lowest rated eps on IMDb are 8.0/10!!), and series 5 is no exception, truly a fantastic series perfect for anyone who enjoys crime drama!! Boxset includes 6 90 minute episodes titled: Muse, Cartouche, Passenger, Colours, Quartet and Icarus. Only complaint is that it doesn't come with any extras. BRING ON SERIES 6, 2019!! (And yes this is what perfection looks like!!)
Review: The Best So Far - Endeavour is my favorite detective series ever. The writing is great with the story lines in each episode completely different from each other.which is especially evident in series 5. The acting is superb such that it seems to anyone watching that this isn't fiction at all. The actors are living their parts. In my opinion, series 5 is the best so far for a lot of reasons. Who could have foreseen Morse sharing a flat with Strange? Morse is more "prickly" than ever with people but yet seems to have more affairs with the ladies. We even see him smoking in one episode! The story lines are very timely in that they include racial discrimination, sexual harassment, and immigration problems. One unusual thing about this series is that the same main "crook" appears throughout the six episodes, and one really nice thing is that we get to see Sam Thursday again in the "army" episode. For me, the only down side for this series is that it didn't include bonus features. Otherwise, it was perfect and I'm looking forward to series 6!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brill! English HOH subtitles are definitely present.
*by J***K on 14 March 2018*

This DVD release (EAN 5037115376237 released 12/3/18) definitely comes with English HOH subtitles (see uploaded picture) as the other 4 series did. (In fact, as all 'ITV STUDIOS' releases do). Several people have already commented that this DVD release comes with no subtitles. - THIS INFO IS WRONG! I don't know where they're getting their info from? I can only assume that they're coming to this assumption based on Amazon's lack of details regarding the presence of subtitles. Amazon often don't mention whether subtitles are present or not, it doesn't mean that they're not there. (They also often report that subtitles are present when they're not!!). Endeavour is always fantastic, a brill series. I love it!! I've been looking forward to this DVD release since I binge watched series 4 over a year ago. There's 6 episodes this year instead of the usual 4. Hence the price increase I assume? The runtime is 533 mins not the reported 720 mins. *** looks like my uploaded piccie has prompted Amazon to update their listing. Even they now report the presence of subtitles! ***
