As a personal preference(head shave every other day) I only use this immediately after shaving as it gives a very soothing effect and other products, giving a more matte finish, at other times. It works on the face as well but I tend to reserve for head only. I would definitely buy this again and would recommend it to other head shavers out there, bearing in mind your appearance preference.
