Review: Economical intro to drying foods - I recently got introduced to sweet potato sticks. They are a great natural snack. Not knowing anything about how to make them myself i sought an easy way to make these myself. This machine was mas my ticket to do just that. I've made three batches and must say I'm almost there. Here is a simply way with this machine. Get 3 or 4 sweet potatoes. peel them. I use a vegetable screen to keep them off the bottom of a pot which I use to steam them until a fork penetrates the potato easily. about 40 minutes. Let them cool. Cut into wedges. I then put them in the Dehydrator on about 4 of the 5 trays provided. I dehydrate for 10 hours. remove them and keep in a covered dish as a snack. 12 hours made them two crisp, 6 hours kept them a bit too moist. 10 hours seems to be almost there. I do this at night with a simple timer that I plug the unit into so I don't have to watch it.
