The scythe is removable from his hand, which is a nice touch, and the steeper itself has a plug at the bottom with no holes. Filling the mug to the brim, the scythe is above the water line so I just pick him up by it. I could also hang him from the side of my mug by the scythe if I wanted. I absolutely love this tea infuser! It's perfect and adorable! I love his scythe because it helps hook him onto the side of the cup. I feel he steaps the tea rather well. Cleaning him is super easy! It's also fairly easy to get the tea leaves out of him. None seem to get caught on anything on the inside. It's one of those little things that's well worth it. It makes having tea fun! Works wonderfully and I feel is the perfect size for the cup I use.
