I am 5'3" and 142 lbs. I usually wear a L or 12. I first bought the Large but the shorts were very baggy underneath the slightly too loose waistband. Then I ordered the Medium and sent back the Large. The fit is slightly awkward with the waist being a little tighter than I wished to get the seat and legs to be the right size.
