If I push it in all the way it reports that there is no probe attached. I'm thrilled i was able to get it to work, I am using this along with an ice chest as a poor man's sous vide cooking method. I pour boiling water into the cooler until i get to the temperature I want, then place the vacuum-packed steaks/ribs into the water and close the lid.
