## Questions & Answers

**Q: can you test for vinyl flooring**
A: Yes. You can test vinyl flooring to see if there is moisture in/or under it. Make sure you have the correct setting for the material under the vinyl flooring. It reads about half an inch "deep" through the vinyl. If it is on concrete then it should be on scale #3. You will have to practice to be able to interpret the trend in readings on concrete. A change in composition of the concrete, or a patch, can give erroneous results even though little or no "added" water is in the vinyl on top of the concrete. For vinyl on wood sub floor use the wood scale - #1. I have found it most useful by looking for trends in elevated moisture readings. I have a penetrating moisture meter to confirm the readings.

**Q: How well does it do in testing moisture in concrete block walls**
A: Mr. Passman, I have not used my meter for testing block walls to date. I have used it many times to test concrete floors in preparing for final flooring and it has been excellent. I can tell you that it measures even small differences in moisture across a floor. I believe it would be accurate if I used it on a block wall also. It has been a great asset. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

**Q: how about for rofing**
A: Scale 2. Testing built-up-roofinga) The presence of moisture in built-up roofs covered with multi-ply roofing felt, PVC, modified bitumen (torch-on) or other membranes, can cause blistering and splitting of the roof surfacing. In addition moisture can cause considerable damage to the contents and fabric of the building as well as heat loss through wet insulation. The Moisture Encounter Plus can be used to confirm a new roof has been installed dry.b) When the waterproofing membrane develops a leak, the water can travel within the built-up-roof structure and enter the building some distance away. Testing the membrane surface and comparing the dry areas with areas where moisture is present below the surface can assist in tracing such a leak to its source.c) As there are many different types and thickness sizes of roofing membranes, it is not possible to give a calibrated percentage measurement. Instead, the comparative scale, marked 0 to 100, is used for checking the difference between wet and dry.d) If gravel surfacing is present, this should be removed to ensure your Moisture Encounter Plus comes into direct contact with the surface of the membrane.Inspectortools - Customer Service

**Q: Looking for moisture in wall. Testing the inside drywall, but it's an exterior wall of the house. Exterior is stucco. Will the metal lath interfer?**
A: No, I would not expect it to interfere as this meter detects moisture up to a depth of 1.5 to 2". Given that your drywall is probably mounted on 2" x 4" framing on the inside and the stucco is frame mounted on the outside, the lathe on the inside of the exterior stucco should not interfere.
